we are getting a great reaction to this up-coming show with photos of hand bags flowing in. Don't forget to bring your fav bag with you to the show!'
Christine was inspired to do this piece, like many of her projects, when she is in her kitchen or garden, when her mind is free floating and Bing, in comes an idea! It is a development on a previous solo performance piece she did in Exeter Phoenix & in Torre Abbey called ‘My Life in Boxes’. Christine explored old suitcases and boxes from her past and it became a life story, live and uncovered. Hand-Baggage is about how her bags through the years has shown the various stages of change both emotionally and stylistically in her life and how keeping all these bags and their memories is both baggage and nostalgia. Christine has taken this theme further out on the streets of Totnes and asked people to discuss and reveal their bags and contents. Christine has also invited celebrated artists to perform and write their own responses to the idea. A wide and unusual collection of performances has emerged from David Rees, Josephine Larsen, Basira Ward Davis and others.
The audience is asked to bring their own favourite bag and to discuss it over a glass of Madeira. Come and share your handbag stories. It will be fun and different. You might even see the bag of your dreams!

She is inspired by the idea of Art as a transformational process and a way to express the deeper parts of the human condition, loss, grief, death and spiritual consciousness.
She sees the theme of bags fascinating both in a personal way and also how 'bags' and 'baggage' are terms loaded with metaphorical meaning.

Josephine Larsen - Actor
Josephine Larsen has performed in just about every manifestation of theatre so far over the past 50 years in 7 different countries. It is not the first time she has performed in a bag. The last time she did this was in Copenhagen in a strip club.
This time she will be stretching the boundaries of the bag world, by imagining what it feels like to be lost in the skin of neither man nor woman.
